Making everyday special

"Every child would choose his mom over his dad." That was what I learned from hubby...at least from his experience of growing with his parents apart. I do think though that some kids would prefer being with their dad.

Everyone of us thinks too that our mom is the greatest and thus came the celebration of mothers day. Personally, I do not believe in selecting just one day to celebrate such a special day. Everyday, we could show our appreciation to our mom not only with words but by action. Giving gifts is but of course natural for all of us. So why not send flowers or a special gift basket of whatever your mom fancies?

I for one have had my share of gifts from my own mom, until now still receive small presents from her. That is why I do not need to wait for a special day for me to send her anything. We were out of Vienna (literally) last Sunday and we attended an assembly at St. Pölten. Every year we go there twice, in winter and in spring. The kids particularly enjoy springtime since they get to see dried sakura falling and would collect them fondly.

Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful moment in a woman's life. Home talk

There's a Facebook application about "5 things I have wanted to be when I grow up" that I answered earlier and I chose those that at some point in my life I dreamed of doing.  Being an interior designer is one of my 'what could have beens.' Then of course, I could still be my own house's interior designer and I am.  Though our wall's color (below photo) is hubby's choice, the smaller details are mine.

I have always enjoyed browsing  decorators catalogues, furniture brochures and  home improvement ideas websites for some tips and tricks or I would just simply enjoy the photos. :D Those materials are also good sources if one is filling up a home and still trying to find classic or modern designs and fitting  ideas, things one can do to save time and money, cheap furnitures and all that. Since my being an interior designer can only be possible at home, I try to make the most out of it. Even if our flat is a mere 76 sq.mtrs, designing and improving it is worth my while.

When speaking of loneliness, we think of "being one, of boredom, dullness, repetition, or tediousness," there are also "feelings of weariness and dissatisfaction." It often results from work or activity that does not stimulate or satisfy. But it is also true that boredom is a subjective state. What is boring to one person may be fascinating to another.

The little boy speaks

Of my three kids, I observed that my youngest was the last to develop well in speech. Every child is different I know, and as the kindergarten teachers say it is not easy for him, since he hears three languages all at the same time when he is developing speech perception. When he turned two I expected that he would somehow construct phrases at the least, but he could only utter syllables in Tagalog, since I never baby-talked him so he can say the words straight and clear.

Since we watch Japanese movies and animes a lot, the little boy was able to mimic a few words and would sing too when he was 2 and 3 months old. He could also say "food words" in tagalog and anything that has to do with eating. Tubig (water), kanin (rice) were his clear words. At one time, he was asking me for something and he kept shouting sakura (cherry blossoms), I absent-mindedly replied "We do not eat sakura here." He continued saying sakura and pointed at my hand......ahhhh I was holding his kutsara (spoon)!

At 2 1/2 he learned saying "Konnichiwa" with a really cute accent. :D He keeps repeating it as though it is his favorite word. Also "shirane" (I don't know) having heard it from 'My Neighbor, Totoro.' The  first phrase (more of a question) that he said in English was "Mama, watchu doing?" followed by a really big grin! I'm not sure where he mimicked or picked that up but I laugh everytime I hear it. The only German word he can say then was "Danke" (thanks).

In September, he finally started saying full sentences in Tagalog, but only in a chaotic order. I would blame the German language because it has a different sentence construction than Tagalog. He would often tell his dad "Ikaw daddy, gulat mo ko, Daniel." (You daddy, you shocked me, Daniel.)  which hubby and I would laugh about later on. He seems so fond of putting Daniel or I at the end of his sentences. It was when he learned his name and that the baby pictures he would refer to as 'baby' was actually him. As a typical kid he started repeating words and phrases he heard with meanings that only I would understand, sometimes though he would only say root words...notable among his favorites were Suppenteller (soup bowl), schön wieder (again), schon kaputt! (broken), hulog ako (I fell down), tulog ako (I want to sleep), kain ako (I am eating).

Now that the little boy turned 3 his speech has improved a lot. He can now request something by saying a full sentence opposed to just a 'word', though he speaks with I still at the end "Mommy, darf bitte Wasser haben, ich?" Lol (The sentence should be Mommy, darf ich bitte Wasser haben?) Or "Gehe aufs Klo, ich."  when it should be "Ich gehe aufs Klo. " (I'm going to the toilet). There are lots of room for improvement, I would correct him once and he would follow the sentence I say. Like a sponge dipped in water he is absorbing a lot, I'm happy seeing him learn a lot of words though of course I'd prefer it if he would absorb good manners and a love for the bible too...but this is for the moment good as it is.

Music for Kids

I always believed that music brings out the best in a person. Singing gives one confidence and so does playing an instrument, that was why I enrolled my daughter in her kindergarten's children's music lessons for flute when she was 4. She played well and can read notes already but had to stop because the school where she went to does not offer this particular program. I plan tp enrol all 3 kids in a music school and I was ecstatic to find out that there are music classes for toddlers near our place. Vienna, just like Japan emphasizes on children's talent development , the famous composers Mozart and Strauß learned and developed their music here after all. There are various Music centers and schools or individuals offering music lessons which the children can attend to after school as extra curricular activities.

My daughter would take flute lessons again, my older son said he wants to learn the guitar and it's convenient too since hubby bought him a guitar years ago while I am not sure for my 3 year-old yet. I am considering to enroll him for voice lessons since he loves singing anyway even with words that are not yet recognizable :D . It is also amazing that these schools have a special baby music class and much awesome is how the smaller kids learn fast from it.

Dress up!

As far as I can remember I have been wearing dresses and skirts more often than I would wear jeans and shirts. I particularly prefer knee-length or over the knees even on colder days.

Gusali/Building - Litratong Pinoy

Hindi naman lahat ng gusali dito sa Siyudad ay luma, marami na ring nagsulputang 'high rise' na gusali at isa dito ang sentro ng mga nagkakaisang bansa (United Nations Organization). Mula sa linyang U6 ng tren (na aking sinasakyan) ay ito ang matatanaw. Ang Donauturm, yaong manipis na toreng nakikita ninyo na nasa Donauinsel na nasa pagitan ng Alte Donau at Neue Donau (Old and New Danube). Ang toreng iyon ay may umiikot na restaurant sa taas at mula doon ay makikita ang  buong Vienna sa pagikot ng  360°!

Sa kabila at malapitang anggulo ay ganito ang hitsura ng isang gusali sa taas, nakikita mo ba kung alin ito sa mga kumpol ng gusali?

When I showed photos of high-rise buildings in the city at my other blog, I got comments stating that some thought Vienna is only of old and classic buildings. Well, with preservation, the old buildings still thrive but modern architecture has also taken its place in the city.

This building is actually one of the Zuwanderer Fonds' apartments, which one can rent fully-furnished. The rent for this particular apartments cost from 500-960Euros depending on the area, which ranges from 29-59 sq mtrs. I guess because its very near the UNO city whose employees have bigger salaries than the usual (they do not pay tax to the city government).

The zuwanderer fonds building is particularly opposite Tech Gate. These two buildings are separated by a main street and the U1 trainline as you see part of the tracks in above photo. I was standing on the platform when I took this shot, I wanted to actually take a photo of the church's spires but I wasn't carrying my zoom lens so I settled for the buildings as the sun sets and gives off this subtle colors.

Online Tutor

Two years ago I worked as an English tutor for elementary kids. Now that my daughter is in school I saw the importance of what I was doing back then. I also saw how different it is to tutor my own kid, I thought aside from having to work, this could be a reason why the parents of kids I used to tutor wanted one for their kids. I had always wanted to try one of those air beds I often see on tv. I particularly wanted one for my little boy. We had recently removed his bed because of 'night leaks' and he is sleeping at the moment with us.

Todays' s theme is "Garden," I am taking you to the Schloss Belvedere, a baroque palace situated at the heart of Vienna. Pardon the photos that were taken when the sun was harsh, high  up at noon.

Simulan na natin ang pagpasyal, kuha mula sa likod ng palasyo, nagkataon naman na ginagawa ito nung kami ay pumasyal, kaya hindi kami nakapasok sa loob upang tingnan ang koleksyon ng mga painting doon...sayang! Binawi na lang namin ang pagpasyal sa labas ng palasyo na napaliligiran ng mga bulaklak at puno, kahit na nasa gitna ng siyudad ay presko ang simoy ng hangin.

Schloss Belvedere  was the summer house of Prince Eugene of Savoy. This is the view of the palace from the middle of the lawn. Spy a crow there?

Mabuti na lamang at tagsibol kaya madami na ring nakatanim na bulaklak. Dahil ang palasyo ay binili ng mga Habsburgs at nilagyan nga ng orangerie at maraming halaman, nanatili itong isang atraksyon makalipas ang maraming taon na nawala na ang monarkiya sa bansa.

In early times, the palace used to be situated at the defense of Vienna, it must have been typical for it to be surrounded by greeneries. Now it is part of the city's 3rd district.

In 1803, Europe's first alpine garden was created in the extensive park area of Belvedere castle following a suggestion of Archduke Johann. Today, more than 4000 plants represent the diverse flora of the alpine ecosystem.

The garden is divided into two, the alpine garden and this part in photo is where lots of flowers, plants and trees are identified. It is quite a hidden refuge for tired feet and sleepy eyes.

Some of the wonderful plants and flower arrangements (landscape) at the palace area. 'Unsere Garten' (our garden) is responsible for keeping the flowers in bloom.

Maraming turista ang dumadalaw sa palasyo. Hindi naman katakataka dahil sa historya nito at ganda ay nakakamangha talaga. Madalas kong binabanggit ang tungkol sa Unsere Garten, sila ang masisipag na taong nagpapanitiling makulay ang paligid. Lahat ng mga isla ng bulaklak sa siyudad ay sinisiguro nilang natataniman at naalagaan ang mga tanim doon.

Ang mga manggagawa ng Unsere Garten ay nag-aaral ng landscaping at iba pang may kinalaman sa paghahalaman, laking pasalamat ko nga dahil madami akong nakukuhanang litrato ng bulaklak dahil sa kanila :D

Ordered Beddings

Three weeks ago I bought bedding sets; duvet covers, with matching flannels and pillow cases designed for the kids, I ordered them online. Until now, I am wondering where those have gone. Turns out the seller has sent me an email that I didn't notice soon, stating that the designs I chose are not available anymore. I was given an option to choose another though.

Forsythia

The first to spring up and the last to wither, sometimes withstanding even the cold, these are Forsythias that are planted around the building were we live.

I never knew how it was called then but jumping around posts for Today's Flowers, I learned that they are Forsythia. At first, they seem to have no leaves, but I guess just like sakura/cherry blossoms, their flowers comes first and then the leaves grow afterwards.
