Photohunt - Chipped

pawn

My love for chess started when I was in gradeschool. It is one of the games we played during PEHM class (Physical Education, Health and Music). Thinking of it now, its not really under any of them, being more of a mental game, chess can't be classified for PE, though it will stress you as much as a physical game would. (Hmmm, maybe when it rains we are forced to play indoors, thats why). Back then I play chinese checkers much too and thats where I really excelled. In highschool, I played for the school as a representative.

I bought this glass pieces back in 2004 and has been with us since then, but just last year one pawn got chipped, and a bishop went missing, apparently taken home by a little boy who visited :D. I found the other chipped piece last week and decided I'd put them together, fortunately its also the perfect subject for today's theme!

  1. Well.. at least there's a replacement to continue with the game. This is a beautifully taken shot. I love the sandblast effect to differentiate players. :)

  2. Great take. I too used to love to play chess. My father taught me how to play. And I thought I had arrived the minute he wanted to play chess with me. Just one of the many memories I have of my father who left this world far too soon, IMO.

  3. Now that's a great photo! Sorry about the missing piece though. We had that happen recently. A piece went from our Kelly pool game.

I got it back though. 19 year olds who accidently put the piece in their pocket, can jolly well give it back!

  17. Great photo for this week. We have a glass set, but the pieces are frosted like your one and black glass for the opponent. They got chipped, broken and I think some pieces are missing now. The kids would play with it, but I think the missing piece just got lost and not accidentally borrowed.

I like your meme link idea and started one for the Saturday Photo Hunt. I've linked to you. Have a great weekend :)

  18. i also have a glass chess set! i'm so afraid it would shatter into a million bits that the pieces remain in their box: they have never been used!
