Sahm Project and Tuesday Toot

I decided to put this post together for these memes since the project I did is something that I wanted to do for the longest time. The kid's room makeover....

I wasn't able to take photos of the 'before' and its nice because I do not want everyone seeing how it was.

So I did was take out the bed that was under the double decker. Well, it was definitely something new for the bigger boy who sleeps there...

Afterwards I tidied up the books in a shelf that wasn't really used much before. The books used to be in the study table, clamped up. Now they are somehow stacked up neatly as well as some dvds, puzzles, coloring books, memory games and other card games.

I haven't finished yet, I still need to hang up some artworks by each of the kids, perhaps that would be my next project as well....

Stay at Home Mom Project - Document your Kid's firsts

Congratulations to Cristine and her homemade water colors with Vien, you are our March 15 Sahm Project winner, you win Swarovski Austria mementos!

Parents, as well as grandparents are always happy to see the first step of their babies or grandkids. It will be all the more fun if it is captured, remember; it's one of those Kodak moments!
However, a photo would not really show that a baby is actually walking so a video would be better, it may not always really be the very first step but at least the very first walk the baby did after learning to balance itself.

Here is my older son, at 9 months old (+ days) walking. His very first step was actually on March 13, 2004 (8 months and 6 days) , this video was taken a month after as he was hesitant to really walk and would prefer to crawl (babies get lazy sometimes).

Second son (below) was a little late in the walking department, his first step was on January 7, 2007 (9 months and 8 days) and this video was sometime in February.

------------
Then, there is also a recording of baby's first time to laugh, crawl and have a tooth among others. I did a little digiscrapping to it, got it printed and placed in the first pages of my daughter's baby album. (Materials courtesy of Marie @ http://freedigitalscrapbooking.com/)

Stay At Home Mom Project - Tea-candle Glass Decoration

I have been collecting candles and candle holders for as long as I can remember...as I was caught in the hype when I was still in the Philippines. I still buy some up until now but due to lack of space at home I could only buy small ones.

For today's SAHM Project, the kids and I simply decorated our own tea-candle holders.

What you will need:

Clear, small glasses (in which a tea-candle will fit)
Tea candles
Window color gels

Wet tissue (to wipe off colors from hands)
apron

How to:

Squeeze the gel on glass, make patterns, dots or draw anything you like. Just make sure that you hold the glass properly so it won't get wiped off or stuck on fingers.

Use different colors alternately...pause for about two minutes to let the gel dry up before using another color. This will minimize the risk of wiping the color off or mixing them with other colors even at the tip.

And there! Have the gel completely cool.

Finished products, that of the youngest has been rubbed off a little, he was happy holding the glass however he wanted.

By daughter and by me. =D

With lit tea-candles.

Two thumbs up for Mommy Razz and cutie Nicole who were the first to post for today's SAHM Project. Mommy receives a Big Hello Kitty bag while Nic gets a smaller one....please go visit their 'clay play'.
Get the chance to win too, post yours now!

alexie painting bro

1. Blog about things that you do with your kids; a)small or big projects such as painting, glass-candleholder decoration, visiting museums or baking.

b)Personal stories of you setting up a small business at home, how to do it and how you handle it or things that you could suggest to other stay at home moms. (Please don't forget to include a photo or two). You can also blog about things that you do or did to improve your skills, learn something new or enhance self-esteem.

Previous posts are welcome as long as they include photos.

2. I will be posting every 1st and 15th of the month, and would also feature one mom with the most unique suggestion. She would also be receiving some small tokens from me sent to her mailing address =). The chosen mom for the 1st of the month will be featured on the 15th and the chosen mom on the 15th will be featured on the 1st week of the next month and so on...

3. For the title please use “SAHM Project: (What your project is)” or something like that. Tag your post with SAHM Project.

4. Visit Mirage as Usual on the 1st and 15th and let everybody know what you've posted by leaving the URL on my posted SAHM Project for that day.

5. Everybody loves comments, so be generous...leave comments for those who are participating as much as you can, this way others will also find yours.

6. Right click on the image and save then link back to this post by placing it on your sidebar or in your post. Sorry about this, I've been learning how to upload the code that we can use but I am an amateur at HTML and coding. New Icons are also welcome.

Stay At Home Mom Project - Get your photos printed

Be it online, in newspapers or magazines.

While being at home, stay at home moms got the time to capture moments of their children's tender years, creativity, fun activities and not so fond times. Take advantage of these by sending your photos to magazines or newspapers.

I have been doing this for some time now and got some of the magazine prints treasured at home.

Below is a copy of the print which was in the November-December issue of MomsToday, a Parenting magazine in the Philippines.

Yes, that was my hand. lol)

You can also send photos you took while strolling outside. Browse through newspaper websites and look which ones accept contributions from readers. One of my favorites among my featured photos was the one at the Österreich newspaper online edition. It was entitled Donau sunset and ducks (Bild 8 von 40 for 13 Februar 2008), the original photo is here.

Aside from the fun that I have in taking photos, seeing my photos get printed uplifts me...somehow I am not just a homebound mom who has lots of work to do. I get to do something I like most, photography. Its nice getting paid for it, especially too that I can do it with who I love as well.

Stay At Home Mom Project - Kid's Painting

alexie painting

Painting or drawing can get messy sometimes, especially for younger tots. Our walls at home would once in a while have markers on them, handprints and taped papers with scribbles. Messy as it may be, kids should not be stopped doing so.

Painting at an early age gives children the capability to recognize colors as they choose what colors to paint with. They see how combining the primary colors (red, blue, and yellow) create other colors.

Painting also becomes an outlet for kids to express their emotions that they can not easily speak out. Stroking, or simlply having to hold the brush practices their motoring skills...they learn how to do darker tones or paint lightly in the process.

Its good to have coloring books but blank papers give them more space for creativity. Who knows, your kid will someday join the ranks of Van Gogh or Monet when honed early. =)

Stay At Home Mom Project

When I started blogging, I was literally running out of creative juices that I stalled for a long time. But now, I got too many ideas cramped in my head, I don't know which to write first.

I decided to post a photo everyday, aside from the usual 'kulimpat' that I junk about. I sometimes can't keep up to date though...always a day late. I anyway do the postings on afternoons or evenings that's why. But I will really try my best to be on time.

Anyway, I'd be adding a weekly project for Stay-at-home-moms like me. These are things that I do at home (and outside) with the kids...things that are worth to do both for myself and the kids.

To start off...Study the bible with the children.

Looking back to how I was when I was a kid, seems so different to how kids are nowadays. Our manners are a reflection of our way of life. For this reason, contrary to what some may think, good manners should hold an important place at home. In this, as in other aspects of family life, parental example is of prime importance. I also deem spiritual food is as important as emotional well-being. What has the bible got to do with all these?

Proverbs 22:6 says: "Train up a boy according to the way for him; even when he grows old he will not turn aside from it."

Many may regard the Bible as old or useless, but the bible sets the standard of what good manners are.

2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.

Young years are formative years and this is the best time to still in them the principles given by the Bible. Some may argue that children are too young to get much from Bible study. But if they can repeat TV commercials word for word and learn catchy phrases on certain programs, certainly they are capable of learning Bible principles. Even 1-year olds can already point to the illustrations in Bible based books (at least that's how it is with my Daniel).

However, knowing some Bible principles is different from understanding where and how to apply them. This is particularly true in the case of children. There is the need to recognize this and the need to constantly help children to understand the whys and wherefores. For example, a child may be told not to steal. This does not mean much to a youngster with no sense of property rights when he sees something that he wants as just 'something he wants'. Explaining that taking things that are not one's property makes him a thief and would make God unhappy (this is well understood by my 2 older children) is a good start...At one time when Alexie was around 4, we saw a new lipgloss lying on the ground. She stared at it for some time then looked at me and said, "Mommy, I'm not going to take that cause we don't own it."

Studying the Bible with children is a sort of protection both for them and the parents. I somehow see the fulfillment of 2 Timothy 3:1 -3 happening and its scary. It goes: 1But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection...

I have seen how the kids respond to our bible studies and I think this is better than reading them a fairytale story before going to bed. Twenty minutes before sleeping and twenty minutes when they awoke isn't much but I'm sure they would learn a lot.

I am (a) SAHM (Stay at Home Mom)

Being a SAHM is not easy, well, too many things to do at once is somehow tiring. Staying at home has led me to do many things that I never thought I could when I was...single. This could appear confusing as all my writings are anyway...but let me show you how a day goes for a SAHM like me.

DSC00045

This photo shows partly the things I do at home.

1. Laundry. Thanks to fully-automatic washing machines, wash time got shorter! After washing, get them dried out in the balcony, but because of the looming rain should be taken in again!

2. Iron clothes. After drying, take them off the line one by one, pair the socks and fold small items such as undies before actually starting to iron shirts, pants, dresses.

3. Fold/hang clothes. Blouses, dresses and pants get hanged while t-shirts, shorts get folded. Each of the clothes to the owner's drawer or cabinet.

4. Cleaning windows. In and out! See the map?

5. Water the plants. My mom grew a garden out of hobby, the flowers and plants are sold to hotel, restaurant designers. I've helped her with watering the plants then, now that I have my own home nothing has changed, I'm still in charge of watering them. lol.

6. Scrub the balcony walls. But its raining so might as well let the rain wash it away? Nah...it won't...The wall needs rough scrubbing, the floor needs sweeping because our friendly neighbors are so kind to throw cigarette butts and cartons there ! (We live on the ninth floor by the way, and ours is the last balcony so there's no roof). I need to be careful too that the things I sweep
so as they don't fall down the 8th floor's balcony. But this is doable only when the floor is dry...

The list goes on, true. Now don't forget my 3 kids... =D

I am not complaining...The day passes by sometimes without me finishing everything...so the next day starts with tons of things to do. I find it amazing I even have the time to blog...
