Up...tears fell down

up-movieThere aren't so many films that made me cry, I can remember a handful and as examples...Toy Story 2 (Pixar) when Jesse told her story of being abandoned by her 'owner' and  Meet the Robinson's (Walt Disney Animation), I cried much at the end of the story, that when Lewis was finally adopted and the ending song Little Wonders was played. I thought it would be the last film that I would cry to watch until I saw UP, Pixar's latest feature animated film which was also the first to screen in 3D. A few minutes into the film and my tears welled up.

When you meet Carl Fredricksen at first (voiced by Edward Asner), you might think he is not the ideal film protagonist at all. But as I learn more about Carl, a 78-year-old retired balloon salesman  when his story was shown, my views changed. He and his childhood sweetheart Ellie (voiced by Director's daughter elie Docter) were explorer wannabes. As kids, they had dreamed of  one day going to Paradise Falls, deep in the mysterious South American jungles. They grew up, got married and were saving up for that particular trip  but problems arise; home issues, childlessness, car repairs and all that kept them busy and ate up what the two saved up...they never made it to Paradise Falls. Carl almost forgot about their dream. When he finally remembered, Ellie was not too fit to go and eventually died without realizing their explorer adventures. Now, I'll stop before spilling more...mycrying which did not surprise hubby and the kids.

This movie is a must see. There were lots of instances when the grumply-old-Carl's antics would make him look more of an action star than an old balloon seller who is in retirement. The whole cast ensemble namely Russell (voiced by Jordan Nagai), a cute Wilderness Explorer who wanted to earn his “senior assistance” badge; Kevin, the flightless birds who turned out to be female;  even Charles Muntz, who was Carl and Ellie's inspiration; and of course the talking dogs, added much for our "oh's" and guffaws.

Needless to say, the production design is as gorgeous as it should be like its predecessors Wall-E, Finding Nemo and Toy Story. What I like about the film though are the silent passages which shows that indeed, action speaks louder than words...and again what makes each Pixar movies apart from others... that of  the humanity within the characters unfolding as the story is told and the ability to touch the heart of the viewers.

Old school mail

Back in Highschool, my peer would exchange everyday little notes of "hi's, hello's, have a nice day's and I missed you yesterday's." I always thought then and I still think now that it is sweet and cute especially when written personally by each of us on those recycled papers and stationeries.

I got in contact with a friend who is now based in California and we got to talking about those days, the thought rekindled those days when we would shop for special stationeries, have our own name stamps, send out letters even if we would actually see each other often. Then we also had our own calling cards, address labels and name tags printed! We had stickers and all those printed with our favorite cartoon characters that was really the example of cuteness. Well, back then we would order from friends who would bring their samples in binded folders and we pick out our designs, nowadays its easier online. Might as well try and see what I can print out, I promised my friend I would send her a snail mail soon. :)

Overheard

mirrorphotoI was readying the table for dinner and  the two older kids were sitting already, we were having beef with mushroom and broccoli and the leftover beefstew (with corn).

The conversation:

Daughter: Wow mushroom and broccoli, that's your favorite right? You can have more.

Son1: Mushroom is your favorite no? Then, you can have more of that.

Daughter: Oh, I don't want that for now, I'm having corn and soup.

Son1: Why wouldn't you want to eat mushroom? Don't you want to grow taller??!?

I was curious when I heard him ask this.

Son1: Don't you remember Mario grows bigger when he eats mushrooms!

Almusal / Breakfast

balcony breakfast

"Breakfast at Balcony's"

---

I was actually supposed to post my yang chow rice recipe but I will put that one in my food blog ;) . Happy LP!

Caribbean Getaway

Where I am is far from the sea, reason enough that seafoods cost a bit higher compared to neighbouring countries surrounded by water. It also follows that seafood restaurants would not be so pocket-friendly for a family of five dine-out nights.

Being near the sea, is a normal thought I have on cold days and gray skies. Not only would I want to eat fresh fruits of the sea, I also enjoy playing sand with the kids, snorkeling and boating with the purpose of taking photos. ;-)

So here are some thoughts to fight away the winter blues, a getaway for the hubby and I. To spend a few nights on one of those wonderful caribbean vacations, not necessarily now, maybe in spring or summer.

Superclub Breezes offers a good package deal for early birds to any of their resorts in Brazil, Jamaica, Panama, the Bahamas and more. Its an all inclusive vacation package, a very convenient way to opt for when travelling away and of course cheaper not to mention hassle free.

Relax, have the best massage and best facial treatment with using natural products. This could also be the best place for a change in over-all look...perhaps a haircut and glowing skin.

Hubby and I plays Wii golf, it would be fun playing the real thing! At Breezes resorts, guests can enjoy both business and pleasure. Attend a conference meeting in the morning and play golf with co-workers in the afternoon.

Most of all, Breezes resorts are also willing to provide places for wedding events. They offer it for free or if you want a grand celebration, a wedding specialist will be willing to help from flower arrangements to documentation, from providing the minister to all that you want a dream wedding to be.

Otherwise, you can book for your honeymoon there for an all inclusive vacation package and stay at any of the very romantic caribbean hotels. Since hubby and I had our wedding years ago, a vow renewal by the beach is our only choice...or I'd just stick with the seafoods at best.

Online Ticketing Booth

Do you enjoy the theatre, watching rock concerts, or live sports games? Well, if you do, ACheapSeat.com is an affordable online ticket booth you can visit and buy cheap tickets from.

They have lots of tickets not just for your favorite football game but concert tickets and theatre tickets too. The website also features information on game schedules, concert dates, and theater shows. You also have the option of picking out the best price and best seat for you and your family.

You can buy New York Giants Tickets in advance so you get the best seat ahead of everyone. If you love other teams, then you can get the New York Jets tickets or the Pittsburgh Steelers tickets at reasonable prices. I find this very convenient than personally picking up your ticket from a seller, you save time and not to mention money for the cheaper priced tickets.

If you are into a more classical show as the theatre, then check out what they have to offer, I think my kids would love the theatrical Highschool Musical as they did the movie. There are lots of scheduled concerts and shows at the website, I'm sure you'll find one for the family for the weekend.
